It’s Not About You

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:11

Moses was facing the possibility of a daunting task: he was being called by God to lead the children of Israel out of their long captivity by the oppressive Egyptian regime. Moses felt that he was ill prepared and ill equipped to handle such a challenging assignment. In his mind he was fully convinced that God was making a tremendous and gross error in selecting him for this undertaking. Who was he to carry out such a charge? Who was he to confront the despotic power of Pharaoh? Who was he to be the liberator of Israel? The reason why Moses could not conceive of this possibility was because Moses was consumed with looking at himself. In his self-analysis he did not possess the necessary qualities, attributes, or gifts to manage such a mission and, if the truth be told, Moses was absolutely right. He did not possess what one might consider the “right credentials.” But this mission was not about him; it was about God.

Many of us have found ourselves like Moses: feeling inadequate in the face of something we’re being called to do by God. It is almost natural to flinch and cringe at the prospect of being used in a God-sized venture. But let’s be clear, God did not call you because of your ability. God called you because of God’s capability. God called you because He knew that what you lacked in preparation, He would make up for in His presence, power, and provision. Remember, when God places an enormous project before you to take upon yourself, it’s not about you. It’s all about God! If God calls you, then He will equip you. If God equips you then He will sustain you. If God sustains you then He will empower you. It’s not about you!

Peace and Blessings,

Pastor Mike

“If God calls you, then He will equip you. If God equips you then He will sustain you. If God sustains you then He will empower you. It’s not about you!”

It sounds so right, so perfect, but this simple concept is sometimes the hardest thing to internalize. Learning to stop looking at myself as I am in the moment…imperfect, flawed, and seemingly incapable and remembering that when I fall short, God completes me and anything God has sets me to do.
